Lewis Lyke Memorial Dedication

Evergreen Hill Cemetery - 2010

On Friday, May 7, 2010, members of the recreated 9th New York Cavalry joined members the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the family of 9th New York veteran Lewis Lyke at his gravesite at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu, NY for a memorial dedication.  Pvt. Lyke never had a proper headstone, and finally received the headstone he deserved as a veteran of the Civil War.  Below is Pvt. Lyke's entry in the muster rolls of the 9th New York as reprinted in Major Cheney's History of the Ninth Regiment, New York Volunteer Cavalry. War of 1861 to 1865.

      Lyke, Lewis K., age 22.  Enlisted in Co. L July 10, '62 at Batavia, N. Y.  Transferred to Co. M Nov 1, '64.  Mustered out June 1, '65 at Winchester, Va.
